Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS)
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) is an attached Department of the Ministry of PD&SI. PBS is the National Statistical Office (NSO) committed to provide accurate, reliable, timely, comprehensive and user-friendly information to both public and private sector organizations at national and international levels. PBS formulates principles for collection, compilation and dissemination of official statistics in Pakistan. PBS provides standard concepts, definitions, and classifications pertaining to official statistics. The Bureau executes all national censuses and surveys and co-operates with international bodies and committees in all statistical matters. Besides these major surveys and initiatives, PBS routinely publishes Price Indicators/Indices, QIM, and Trade statistics on a monthly basis. PBS also provides internships and exposure visits to university students, faculty, and civil servants. Moreover, it provides technical services to various national and international organizations of the development and economic sectors. PBS regularly conducts Pakistan Social & Living Standards Measurement (PSLM), Labor Force Survey (LFS), Pakistan Demographic Survey (PDS), and Agriculture & Related Census and Surveys. Recently, PBS has completed Mouza Census to provide the basis for the first Integrated Agriculture Census. PSLM is a flagship survey of PBS and under this, District and Provincial level surveys are conducted on alternate years to provide Social and economic indicators. PSLM is the major source of data for tracking Pakistan’s progress on SDGs.
China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC)
In July 2013, an MoU was signed between the Governments of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the People’s Republic of China to jointly develop the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The Ministry of PD&SI of Pakistan and the National Development and Reforms Commission (NDRC) of China are the lead agencies to formulate and coordinate CPECrelated activities. CPEC Secretariat was established within the Ministry of PD&SI to coordinate and implement CPEC projects/ activities in collaboration with line Ministries. CPEC encompasses a wide range of collaborative projects (Energy, Infrastructure Development, Gwadar, Industrial Cooperation, Agriculture, Science and Information Technology, Livelihood Improvement) aimed at socio economic development and prosperity.
Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE)
The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) is devoted to advancing theoretical and empirical research in the field of Development Economics, with a specific focus on economic issues relevant to Pakistan. In addition to its core mission of providing a robust academic foundation for effective economic policymaking, PIDE’s research efforts offer a unique lens through which the global community can gain insights into the state and trajectory of economic research in Pakistan. Recognizing the increasing intersection of economic policy and development with other social sciences like demography and anthropology, PIDE acknowledges the broader spectrum of research required to underpin sound economic policy and development initiatives. With a history spanning 62 years, PIDE has earned international acclaim and recognition for its research endeavors, boasting a distinguished faculty and an advisory committee featuring esteemed economists, including Nobel Laureate Robert A. Mundell. As an institution granting degrees, PIDE’s topmost priority is to deliver affordable, world class education in the region, fostering a truly stimulating learning environment that promotes academic excellence and innovation.
Pakistan Planning and Management Institute (PPMI)
Pakistan Planning & Management Institute (PPMI) core objectivesencompassed raising awareness among government officials and planners about the complexities of economic and social planning at various administrative levels, spanning from the national to the district level. Additionally, the Institute aimed to enhance expertise in project planning and management across all stages, from identification and formulation to appraisal, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. PPMI sought to identify training needs in management techniques, especially in the context of project management, and improve the competence of project managers through specialized courses in general management, financial management, and project management. To meet the growing demand for in-service training among government and semi-government agencies, the Institute played a crucial role in ensuring the continuous professional development of project planners and managers. Furthermore, the Institute provided training in macro-level economic and social planning to planning staff and delivered post entry training to recruits in the Economists Group and Technical Sections of the Planning Commission. Complementing these efforts, the Institute was responsible for developing comprehensive course materials, guidelines, and manuals.
National Logistics Cell (NLC)

Sindh Infrastructure Development Company Limited (SIDCL)
SIDCL was established under the Companies Act, 2017. It is based in Karachi to carry on the Business of Infrastructure Development, Expansion and Improvement, in line with Government Policy for Planning, Designing, Implementing, Constructing and Executing Infrastructure Development Projects in Karachi and Adjoining Areas. SIDCL has completed 7 infrastructure projects out of 10 worth Rs. 47.2 billion. Currently, 3 projects amounting to Rs. 38.7 billion are ongoing. In 2022-23, SIDCL successfully commenced the operations of First BRT Line i.e. Green Line with 80 state of the art articulated buses and modern Intelligent Transport System (automated ticketing and vehicle location system, CCTV cameras).
National Disaster and Risk Management Fund (NDRMF)
NDRMF was established under Section 42 of Companies Ordinance, 1984 which aims to provide grants for subprojects that will enhance Pakistan’s resilience to climate and other natural hazards, and strengthen the government’s ability to make a disaster-resilient country, including pandemics, epidemics & health emergencies. The total portfolio of NDRMF is $551.2 million. NDRMF has completed 16 projects out of 30 and number of ongoing projects is 14. NDRMF engaged in reconstruction and rehabilitation (R&R) projects from Sindh and Balochistan provinces with an estimated amount of Rs.5.1 billion during the reporting quarter. In addition, projects were also received from Aga Khan Foundation, Islamic Relief Pakistan, Muslim Aid Pakistan and KnK International. In floods of 2022, there was an urgent requirement from the Government of Pakistan to re-purpose funds on an immediate basis. Keeping in view the directions, NDRMFs Board of Directors (BoD) approved the reallocation of US$ 150 Million (PKR 35.37 Billion) from Components 1 & 2 to Component 3 of Pakistan Hydromet and Climate Services Project (PHSCP) to compensate for the flood damages. In order to meet the funding requirement, NDRMF signed a Grant Implementation Agreement (GIA) with BISP for disbursement of cash grants through an existing biometric based payment mechanism via partner banks. The project stands completed whereby providing cash assistance to more than 1.42 million affected households in the declared affected areas.
